PH Server Discontinued
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) has disabled their PH server as
part of their centralized directory server transition. OIT no longer supports
a PH server or a WHOIS server. The funcitonality of the centralized electronic
directory has been moved to a system utilizing the LDAP protocol. OIT
maintains a Web interface to the new server here. A Web interface to OSU's
LDAP server has also been developed for the local system, and it is accessible
here.
You can also configure various Internet clients (i.e. Netscape Communicator,
Outlook Express, or Eudora for Windows) to utilize a LDAP server. See this page for details.
If you want to configure Eudora for Macintosh to connect to OIT's LDAP server,
then read on.
Configuring LDAP in Eudora for Macintosh
- If Eudora is running, quit it.
- Locate the folder where your Eudora application is
located.
- If there's a file named "Esoteric Settings" (probably with version
information at the end of the file name, e.g. "Esoteric Settings v5") located
in the Eudora Stuff folder, skip to step 5.
- Find the Esoteric Settings file in the "Extra Plugins" folder and move it
to the "Eudora Stuff" folder.
- Start Eudora. Access the Settings dialog from the Special menu and locate
the LDAP section of the dialog.
- Complete the fields in this dialog as follows:
- Directory Services Host
ldap://directory.service.ohio-state.edu/ou=People,dc=osu,dc=edu
- Word-wise search filter template
(uid=^0)
- Full query search filter template
(cn=^0)
- You may now access OIT's LDAP server from the Directory Services window of
Eudora.
